The Connective Power of Fathers and Daughters
We are working on our second book Girl Dads: Changing The World. Our goal is to highlight the life-defining guidance, support and love that girl dads bring to their daughters. We will showcase how these inspiring girl dads are giving their daughters what they need to stand tall with greater self-esteem and self-respect and how this impacts the partners they will choose, the dreams they pursue and their beliefs about what they deserve.
This book will also address the societal shifts around fatherhood, parenting and masculinity. Girl dads embrace a new model where men are blending their heads and hearts, and where loving kindness, and empathy are signs of strength, not weakness.
Girl dads are also integrating these empowering behaviors and attitudes into their professional lives and leadership styles. They have long been disruptors in business around the advancement of women and have led successful workplace initiatives such as men as allies. They bring a different perspective to the topic because they have learned through the eyes of their daughter’s experiences.
This project was inspired by the thousands of dads who paid tribute to basketball legend, Kobe Bryant and his daughter, Gigi, by declaring their cherished girl dad roles on social media (#GirlDad). Although widely regarded as one of the greatest basketball players of all time, Kobe is being remembered as a devoted girl dad who, above everything else, enjoyed spending time with his four daughters. As Kobe, said, “I would have five more girls if I could. I am a girl dad.” This touching story points to the significant social change underway about this key father daughter relationship and the impact it has in her world and the world we all live in.
A father is his daughter's first and most influential love and that legacy created through empowering guidance, loving presence and emotional connection is one you can be most proud of. We believe that Girl Dads are changing the world!
